Polaris Pre-Nursing juniors (top left to right), Sihma Islam, Olmsted Falls, Alaura Darden, Brooklyn and Kainat Ghulam Ali, Strongsville and seniors (bottom left to right), Hannah Odetallah and Ravin Nickels, both from Strongsville, are currently participating in the Cleveland Clinic ASPIRE Nurse Scholars Program. ASPIRE is a 12-week enrichment program sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic and the Howley Foundation in collaboration with the Ursuline College Breen School of Nursing, which is designed for high school juniors interested in pursuing careers in nursing. This year, only 30 students from around the region were admitted into the program.
The program focuses on providing participants with career information and critical skillsets to support their pathway through higher education, nursing school and beyond. Students who successfully complete the program receive a $500 monetary stipend. In addition, select participants are invited to return for a second year as mentors, as well as to build on the foundation of skills and concepts learned their junior year. Hannah and Ravin are returning seniors. As second year participants, they also have the opportunity to earn a scholarship to attend Ursuline College to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ravin is a recipient of both the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Howley Foundation Scholarships.
